Unless you've been living under a rock, or perhaps are new to the crafting world, you must've seen the reverse canvas trend that is happening everywhere. It has roots in the rustic farmhouse world, but it can easily be transformed to match any decor. So if you are wondering how to make a reverse canvas for yourself, keep reading, because I have all of the info including the supplies you will need and some fantastic ideas for inspiration.

The list of supplies is pretty short, but can vary depending on your finished product. Here are a few of the supplies that are most commonly used when making a reverse canvas with your Cricut machine:

1.A canvas: This can be whatever size you want, but it needs to be the stretched type that is pulled over a wooden frame and stapled, not the canvas panels. You can find really great deals on multipacks listed on Amazon.

2. A craft knife: This is used to cut the canvas from the frame. (My new favourite is the True Control knife from Cricut – the blade doesn't shake or come loose, and you don't have to touch the blade to change it. You can grab one for yourself here.)

3. Iron on vinyl: There are so many types of iron on, but here are a few of my favourites:

  • foil iron on (gives a metallic finish, and is available in both matte and shiny finishes)
  • solid colour iron on (available in a wide range of colours)
  • glitter iron on (for a touch of sparkle)
  • patterned iron on (a pattern instead of a solid colour)
  • premade designs (available in two sizes, and come in a wide variety of designs and styles)

You can view all of Cricut's iron on styles and designs here.

EasyPress: Makes the application of the iron on to the canvas fabric really easy.

Paint or stain: If you wish to colour the wooden frame.

Hot glue gun or hardware stapler: To reattach the canvas to the frame.

Making a reverse canvas is really easy, which is why it has become such a popular item in home decor. Plus all of the supplies are relatively inexpensive for a finished piece of custom art.

To start, cut the canvas from the frame using a craft knife. If you have a staple remover, you can pull the staples out instead of slicing the canvas, but I find it easier to just cut the canvas.

Next, decide what you would like on your canvas, making sure that your design fits within the frame of your canvas. (I will share a bunch of great examples below if you need ideas.) Cut it out of iron on material using your Cricut Explore, Cricut Maker, or other cutting machine. You can also choose to use Cricut's premade iron on designs, which make this project even faster to complete!

While your design is cutting, you can paint or stain the frame, if desired to give it a completely custom look and to perfectly match your home decor.

Align your project on your canvas and use the EasyPress to adhere it. Make sure to follow the EasyPress setting for your specific type of material. (You can find all of the EasyPress settings here.)

Once your design is adhered, use a hot glue gun to glue the canvas back onto the back of the wooden frame. You can also staple it on if you have a hardware stapler. If there is fabric hanging over, use a craft knife to cut it down to size.

The last step is to hang and admire your handiwork!

You have already spent a ton on the Cricut machine, Cricut tools, and materials. You can save some money by using the free images that Cricut offers in Design Space.

There are many options for images available on the internet as well. Sometimes you just want to find a quick image that you can put into the canvas and create a project.

Besides that, there are some darn cute images in Cricut Design Space and Cricut Access sometimes.

How do I get free images for Cricut?

To find free images for Cricut craft projects, you can use a few different search methods in Cricut Design Space. They have updated the process and it is now easier than ever to find Cricut's free images, print then cut images, draw only images, projects that need to be scored, and cut only images.

Follow this tutorial to search free images.

Open your Cricut software.

Click on NEW PROJECT.

Once you have the Cricut canvas open, click on IMAGES.

There is an option to look at the images that are 'free this week'. You can use this option to open the search features. Or you can click on BROWSE ALL IMAGES

This will open up the search feature of Cricut Design Space. You can search free and paid images in this section. The paid images can be purchased individually or you can purchase Cricut Access and have access to all images and projects that are available by Cricut.

Mark the FREE option on left under OWNERSHIP (click the + button to show all options).

When you do this, it will filter all the images and show you all the images and projects that are currently free. In this example, there are over 2,275 images for you to look through.

Activate office license key. That is ton. You need to find a way to filter those down a bit. Otherwise you will be wasting all your craft time just looking for an image.

Use the search bar to filter the images and find what you are looking for. Type in your term. Try singular to get the most options. My example is plural 'flowers' and it limits the search a bit.

If you are looking for a specific type of project like Print then Cut or something that involves scoring and folding, click the box next to the operation type. (if you can't see these options, click on the + mark)

Logic pro logo. Did you find your perfect image? Yes.

Click on the image and it will have a green bounding box. You can select multiple images if you want to use more than one.

Next, click on INSERT IMAGE to put the images into your project on you Cricut Design canvas.

Now you are ready to get started with your project. Have fun!

Once you use an image (or after you have saved it to your images to use it for later) it will be available for you to use for your projects.

Sometimes, the image are no longer available for free. Office 2016 crack version.

When this happens, the images are still in your library, but you will have to pay the fee for the image (unless you have purchased Cricut Access…then they will all still be available).

Follow the tutorial to filter down your search results. When you are ready to start another search, click the CLEAR ALL button and start another search.
